First tastes of summer

My first blog of June 2011 …

Ah, June, how I have missed thee.

I adore your long days, warming temperatures, blue skies, green grasses.

And I look forward to devouring the beginning bounty of early summer with my first trip to the Worthington Farmers Market next week.

I can’t wait to see what delights await me there: asparagus, lettuce, spinach, perhaps a few early strawberries?

No, I don’t think it’s quite strawberry season, and the imported varieties in the store still lack certain sweetness. But HB and I have been indulging lately in strawberry shakes, made with those store-bought berries in our Magic Bullet blender.

I slice up a few (well, maybe four, or five, or six, depending on the size) berries into the bottom of the blender container and add a little bit of milk. A quick whirl in the Magic Bullet pulverizes the berries, then I add a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream, and the whole mixture goes for another whirl.

Simple, easy. A taste of summer.
