As a kid, I used to wrinkle up my nose in distaste whenever my dad ordered blue cheese dressing on his salad.
As an adult, however, I have come to savorthe flavor of stinky cheese. Hubby Bryan and I are both fans of a good blue cheese bacon burger, so this recipe from Pillsbury immediately caught my attention. I’m sure Bryan would add some bacon to make it a truly decadent burger — a special treat for this Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Grilled Blue Cheese Burgers
In a small skillet, cook 2 cloves finely chopped garlic in ¼ cup butter or margarine over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until garlic is tender. Stir in 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce and remove from the heat.
Heat a gas or charcoal grill.
In large bowl, mix 3 pounds lean ground beef and 2 tablespoons Montreal steak seasoning. Shape mixture into 8 oval patties, ½-inch thick. Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160 degrees.
Remove patties from grill to platter; top with 1 cup blue cheese crumbles.
Place 8 diagonal slices (1 inch thick) French bread on grill; cover and cook for 2 to 4 minutes, turning once, until lightly toasted. Spread one side of each toasted bread slice with butter-garlic mixture.
Top bread with salad greens and burgers.
Makes 8 burgers.
