Lucky Number 13

  Today, my much older brother turns 56. Yep, Marty’s birthday is on Friday the 13th, but even better, he was born on Friday the 13th.

But 13 is a lucky number in our family. I’m another 13 baby — February — and celebrated my “golden” birthday, 13th, on Friday the 13th way back when.

Marty and wife Pam got married on June 13.

Hubby Bryan’s softball jersey number was 13, long before I knew him.

And as I’ve probably mentioned before, our beloved DotMom left this world on April 13, which can be considered lucky because we know she was going to a much better place and left her suffering behind.

As has become tradition in recent years, I delivered a birthday cake to Mart’s office a couple of days ago. DotMom always insisted that everyone should have a cake on their birthday. For Mart’s special day, she usually made a complicated chocolate chip cake with chocolate filling and the seven-minute boiled frosting. I’m a good sister, but I’m not that good. I always go with Crazy Cake that I’ve probably shared here several times.

And I’ve likely shared this one from DotMom’s “Mixing & Musing” before, too — maybe last year on Marty’s birthday? — but I’m too lazy to go back and look.

Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake

Combine 1 package yellow cake mix, 1 package instant vanilla pudding, 4 eggs, ¾ cup water and ¾ cup oil. Beat well.

Fold in 4 ounces German’s sweet chocolate and 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Pour batter into a well-greased Bundt pan or 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
